From www.the-underdogs.org:
Commando Enhanced is an excellent remake of Commando, Data East's classic shoot 'em up. The game is in turn a remake of Commando 32K, a smaller remake created for the Mekka 32k competition. Similar to the original classic, the goal is simple: make your way through all the levels. Nothing more, nothing less. In addition to featuring better graphics than the original 4-color CGA palette, Commando Enhanced also adds a lot of new gameplay elements, including new enemy types, the ability to pick up and use grenades and radio to call in surgical air strikes, body armor, and many more special items. The controls are intuitive, and the gameplay is very fluid. If you like the original or military shooters in general, you will no doubt enjoy this top-notch remake of a timeless classic. Two thumbs up!
v2.1 - 16 Sep 06: * Fullscreen graphics fix for some graphics cards v2.0 - 3 Jan 06: * Ported to Windows and Linux, using FMOD and SDL libraries * No support for DOS anymore (please use v1.5) * Joystick support disabled at the moment * Minor bugfixes
To play Commando Enhanced on Windows, click here! Everything's included to start playing right away.
To play it under Linux/i386, click here! You need the SDL and fmod libraries installed. If not in your Linux distribution, SDL can be found here and fmod is here.
If you're still using good old DOS, you can get version 1.5 by clicking here. It is no different from version 2.0 (it actually has more features right now).
If you know how and would like to port Commando Enhanced to a different architecture or you like to enhance it even more, you can get the sources here. You need a Pascal compiler supporting Turbo Pascal 7.0 syntax to compile. I used Free Pascal for that. You also need either one of the binary archives for the data files, if you like to actually play your self-compiled version.
If you would like to design new levels for Commando Enhanced, you can grab the Windows version of the level editor here. The Linux version is here and the sources are here.
Alright, i think that's it. Contact information can be found in the readme file, in case you'd like to talk to me.
