Scatha / Counterblast

Thursday, March 27th at the Freizeitheim Friesenstrasse in Bremen

The Freizi Friesenstrasse isn't my favourite place for going to a gig, but the bands are always excellent. It is one of Bremen's youth centers, and the atmosphere is quite uncomfortable and cold. I just don't feel good there very easily. But after all I was here for music :)
First band were Counterblast (from Sweden, I think). Their music is heavily Neurosis influenced, but faster and with an even more apocalyptic touch. Although the band was very good, they didn't match Neurosis' extreme intensity. But who does :) A must, even if you don't prefer this kind of music.
Scatha were next (and last). I like this crusty sound the UK is producing, and I liked Scatha. They got the stupidest looking singer (by purpose) I've ever seen in my life. Music was cool (like expected), although I was missing these ultrafast parts I'm enjoying very much on other british DIY bands like Doom or Suffer.
After all a great evening, and after I had a chance of listening to Counterblast's record 'Balance of pain' I'm sure I had enjoyed it even more if I had known the music before.
